Tracey A. Johnson

Washington County Board of Commissioners
Tracey is a lifelong resident of Washington County in rural eastern North Carolina. She has served as Chair of the Board of Washington County Commissioners, Chair of the Albemarle Comm. Council of Government member (COG); President of the Board of Directors of the North Carolina Association of County Commissioners (NCACC), and member of the Board of Directors of the National Association of Counties (NACo). She has also served on numerous boards and committees for mental health systems (Chair of the Human Rights Committee) Trillium BOD, educational systems (new Schools and lottery advisory committees), Risk Management, Recreation, Aging, and Crime Stoppers to name a few. She is also a member of the NC East Alliance Board of Directors. Tracey is a graduate of the UNC School of Government LELA (Local Elected Leaders Academy) Advanced Leadership Corps (ALC), the Gen. Colin L Powell Professional Development Academy, the JB Hunt Education Elevate Leadership Academy, and the County Leadership Institute (CTI). Tracey has worked at Beaufort County Community College for over 30 years, where she is now retired as the Assistant to the Director of Operations and Past President of the Staff Association. Tracey has more than twenty five years of on-the-ground public service in rural North Carolina. She has faced and worked on many crucial issues in rural areas: the need for improved educational opportunities, Hospital resources, increased broadband and connectivity, general capital improvements, appropriate transportation, and revenue sources needed for these and other essential human services. In her spare time, she likes to coach, attend sporting activities and play cards and board games.
