Center on Rural Innovation

Matt Dunne is the Founder and Chief Executive Officer of the Center on Rural Innovation, where he leads a national effort to build inclusive digital economies and expand opportunity in small towns across America. With decades of experience at the intersection of technology, public service, and community development, he has grown CORI into a nationwide network supporting rural entrepreneurship, workforce development, and broadband-enabled economic growth. Prior to founding CORI, Matt served as Head of Community Affairs at Google, developing programs focused on digital skills and job creation. He previously represented his region in the Vermont House and Senate and served as a Director of AmeriCorps VISTA, leading national service initiatives to strengthen local capacity. His work has been featured in outlets including The New York Times, Washington Post, and Fast Company, and he frequently advises policymakers and rural leaders on strategies for building resilient, innovation-driven local economies. Matt is a lifelong Vermonter. He and his wife, Sarah Taylor, are raising their family on the small farm in Vermont where Matt was raised.
